We will send out our Welcome Pack to you via email on the day you sign with us. Information such as your area bin collection schedule and contents to place in bins along with contact details to reach us will be in the pack. We will then deliver your Thorntons Recycling bins to you within ten working days, if not sooner. If you have a smartphone then why not download our App and track your account weekly? The App also contains your collection schedule.

Please contact us on 01-6235133 to order a replacement bin; these are chargeable at a cost of €40 each.

Recycling bins can be rejected due to:

  • Contamination
  • Bin was not out in time
  • Account has gone into arrears

Unfortunately this is not possible as all of our direct debits are processed on the 25th of each month.

Your request for closure should be in writing to Domestics@thorntons-recycling.ie. On receipt of this your account will be closed and your empty bins removed. The €15 per bin removal fee will be added at this point and any monies due will be refunded by cheque.

Our waste collection service is a kerbside collection and we recommend that your bins be presented kerbside and visible to our operatives.

Please leave your bin out the night before your collection is scheduled

Our office hours are between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 2pm Saturday, commercial queries only. Outside office hours you can contact us at domestics@thorntons-recycling.ie

When your bin is lifted, the microchip in the bin is read and the weight recorded (less the weight of the actual bin) is automatically communicated to our office. All of our trucks have current certificates confirming the accuracy of our weighing system.

If your account needs to be topped up you will receive a text a couple of days prior to your lift. (Please ensure that we have your current contact details and that you are opted in for this service).

If ordering on >www.skip.ie you have to pay by debit or credit card. If you place your order over the phone you can pay cash on deliver.

You need a permit to put a skip on a public road where parking restrictions apply. This includes:

  • Double yellow lines
  • Paid parking zones, e.g. pay-and-display
  • Clearways

You do not need a permit if you want to put a skip on a road with no parking restrictions. If you are unsure you can ring your local council & they will advise if a permit is needed.

Thornton’s Recycling will make every effort to facilitate a change to your order. Charges will apply for a larger skip. Please call us on 01 6235133 or contact info@thorntons-recycling.ie.

Each skip has a max fill line clearly indicated on its side. If the skip is filled beyond this point it cannot be collected for safety reasons and the driver will ask you to remove some material before the skip can be loaded.

In general, you should give some thought as to how you will fill your skip. Larger items need to be placed carefully if you are to avoid creating unfilled spaces that stop you getting the most out of your skip.

The smaller skips (2cy & 3cy) are suitable for small household/garden & office clear-outs.

Popular builder’s skips (6cy) are ideal for medium scale construction jobs and medium scale home and office clear-outs.

What items are not allowed in the skip?

  • Animal remains or carcasses
  • Asbestos
  • Batteries
  • Chemical Waste
  • Contaminated soil & stones
  • Electrical goods such as fridges, freezers, microwaves, televisions, computers etc
  • End of life vehicles, tyres
  • Fluorescent light bulbs /lighting
  • Hazardous hospital waste (including sharps containers etc)
  • Inks
  • Paints or empty paint tins
  • Waste Oils
  • Photographic waste
  • Pressurised vessels e.g. fire extinguishers
  • Road Sweepings
